The history of the city of Kathmandu dates back to ancient times and is inseparable from that of the Kathmandu valley whose architectural and cultural heritage consists of seven groups of monuments and buildings. These illustrate the historic and artistic achievements for which Kathmandu is renowned and contain a variety of beautiful and unique architecture. Durbar Square


Located in the heart of Kathmandu and dating back to the 4th century, Durbar Square has served as the royal palace complex and a centre for political, cultural, and religious activities. It contains many temples and buildings with each structure showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Nepal, with layers of history and artistry embedded in their designs. Durbar Square 


 

The Bhaktapur Durbar Square contains a stunning showcases of Newari art and architecture. It includes well-preserved courtyards, palaces and temples including the Nyatapolia Temple, the tallest temple in Nepal, and the 55-Window Palace, the royal palace of the Malla kings until their fall in the late 18th century. READ MORE


 



 

Swayambhunath
 

Established by King ​​​​​​Manadeva, Swayambhunath is one of the oldest religious sites in Nepal and has over the centuries, been a significant centre for both Buddhist and Hindu practices. Attracting devotees and pilgrims from various regions, who have contributed to its cultural and spiritual importance and producing a beautiful blend of ancient religious symbolism and architecture. At the heart of the complex is a large stupa, one of the most ancient and revered in Nepal.
