Prior to Visit

•     Most travellers need an e‑Visa; apply online through the official government portal.
•     Keep digital and printed copies of your passport, visa, and hotel bookings.
•     Domestic flights are inexpensive and often the fastest way to move between regions.

Travel

•     Domestic flights save huge amounts of time.
•     Trains are iconic but book early; higher classes (2AC, 3AC, Chair Car) are comfortable.
•     Taxis and ride apps (Uber, Ola) are reliable in cities.
•     Driving yourself is not recommended unless you’re used to very dynamic traffic.

Money & Payments

•     Digital payments (UPI, QR codes) are everywhere, but foreign cards may not work with them.
•     Carry some cash for small shops, markets, and rural areas.
•     ATMs are common in cities.

Eating out

Indian food is extraordinary, but a few habits help you enjoy it fully.
•     Eat at busy places with high turnover.
•     Prefer bottled or filtered water; avoid ice unless you trust the source.
•     Street food is fantastic—just choose vendors with crowds and fresh cooking.
•     Spiciness varies wildly; you can always ask for “less spicy”. Although in some places everything is spicy.

Daily Rhythm & Cultural Flow

•     India runs on a flexible sense of time - be patient and build buffer into your plans.
•     Festivals are spectacular but can affect transport and crowds.
•     Dress modestly, especially at temples and rural areas.
•     Expect to see poverty.

Temples, Forts & Historic Sites

•     Remove shoes at temples; sometimes socks are allowed.
•     Photography rules vary - always check signs.
•     Many major sites are busiest from 10 am to 4 pm; early morning is magical.

Health & Comfort

•     India can be hot - keep hydrated.
•     Air quality in big cities can be poor; consider a mask if you’re sensitive.
•     Travel insurance is essential.

Social & Cultural Awareness

•     Indians are warm and curious; conversations start easily.
•     Bargaining is normal in markets but not in malls or restaurants.
•     Personal space is different - crowds are part of the experience.
